You don’t need to be a medical expert to spot the signs of aging. You’ve watched grandparents, parents, and friends transform over the years, and one of the first things you noticed was the state of their skin. Wrinkles, dark spots, lines, and skin laxity are telltale signs that skin has lost its youthful glow.
You do, however, need to be a medical expert to turn back the clock and restore your skin’s vitality.
That’s where Dr. Naima Cheema at Nexclin Medicine comes in. She’s a triple board-certified physician with many years of experience as an anti-aging specialist, and she offers several evidence-based treatments to prevent premature aging and reverse the effects of time. Our lineup of services includes:
- Dermal fillers
- Acne therapy
- Melasma treatment
- Rosacea treatment
- Botox® and Xeomin®
- Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy
One of the oft-overlooked powerhouses in the anti-aging arsenal is the chemical peel. Here, Dr. Cheems explains why you should consider this proven treatment as part of your regular skin care routine.
All chemical peels are not the same
All chemical peels use various acids to trigger a response in your skin that makes it shed its outer layer. However, the strength of the acid varies from formula to formula, and each is intended to reach a specific depth in your skin.
Light or superficial chemical peels generally use glycolic, alpha-hydroxy, or beta-hydroxy acids to remove blemishes relatively close to the surface.
Medium peels use trichloroacetic acid to penetrate a bit deeper. These peels can eliminate hyperpigmentation problems, acne, acne scars, and large pores.
The deepest chemical peels use phenol and require significant downtime, as they’re quite painful. Phenol peels are once-in-a-lifetime treatments.
Spa chemical peels are also different. Although comfortable and pleasant, they’re typically so mild that they're ineffective. Dr. Cheema uses medical-grade chemical peels formulated to address signs of aging.
Benefits of adding chemical peels to your skin care routine
Although a single chemical peel can erase a lot of skin problems, we often recommend up to six sessions spaced out over time to achieve your desired results. After that, many of our patients keep chemical peels in the rotation of their regular skin care regimen, and here’s why.
Superior deep cleaning and exfoliating
You know you need to exfoliate now and then to remove excess dead skin cells, but your washcloth only goes so far. A chemical peel does more than slough off surface flakes; it removes a whole layer so you can start afresh with a new layer of skin. And talk about clean — no product on the market can (or should) clean your skin as deeply as a chemical peel can.
Even out your complexion
Pigmentation problems are the mark of aging skin. Melanin cells form clusters that appear as dark spots and patches. They range in color from flesh tone to bright red, and they wreck the look of your skin. Chemical peels can even reduce the appearance of minor scars from acne and mild scrapes.
Strengthens your skin
In addition to removing blemishes, chemical peels also add something to your skin — strength. Every chemical peel triggers a response deep within your skin, prompting it to generate new cells. The acids also detoxify your skin and reduce stress, enabling your skin to do what it does best even better — protect you.
Slows down the aging process
We can’t stop you from aging, but chemical peels can slow down the effects of aging on your skin and help you stave off premature aging.
