What are Male Hormones?

Testosterone is the main hormone that makes men masculine. 95% of body’s testosterone is produced by the testes. Our brain controls the production of testosterone by secreting two major hormones, called Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) and Luteinizing Hormone (LH).

What are the causes of male sexual dysfunction?

Sexual dysfunction is multifactorial. It has a direct relationship with the mental and physical well being of an individual. Aging itself has a significant effect on sexual dysfunction.

What causes low testosterone levels?

The most common cause of low testosterone level is aging. As men grow old, the amount of testosterone produced by testes decline. In rare cases, the brain does not produce sufficient amounts of Follicular Stimulating Hormone (FSH) or Luteinizing Hormone (LH) to adequately stimulate the testes, resulting in low production of testosterone. This inadequate production results in elevated estrogen levels relative to testosterone. The imbalance between estrogen and testosterone results in enlargement of the prostate and urinary problems.

What are the effects of low testosterone levels?

The condition with low testosterone levels is called Andropause or Low T Menopause. It has the following symptoms.

  • Fatigue
  • Low bone density
  • Loss of lean muscle mass
  • Decreased muscle strength
  • Sexual dysfunction

Am I a candidate for Hormone Replacement Therapy?

All men do not require hormone replacement therapy. During the consultation, Dr. Naima Cheema evaluates each patient individually with a detailed history, physical exam and hormone testing. At Nexclin Medicine, we offer several different forms of testosterone replacement therapies including creams, gels, injectables, and pellets.
